To check your remaining internet balance in Afghanistan, use the code for your network: on ATOMA dial *344#Dial and reply 7, on Etisalat text 505 to 606, on AWCC and Salaam dial the check code for your bundle, and on Roshan open the My Roshan app. Remember that your data balance and your main airtime balance are two separate things, so each has its own check.
Tap Copy next to any code, then paste it into the phone app. On an Android phone you can also tap Dial, or Text for an SMS code. iPhones do not allow websites to dial these codes, so on an iPhone tap Copy, open Phone, paste, and press call.
Key takeaways
- Main balance is your airtime money, and data balance is what is left of your bundle.
- AWCC and Salaam use a separate check code for each bundle.
- These codes work without internet, so you can check even after your data has stopped.
- Unused data usually ends when the bundle expires, so check the date as well as the amount.

Bundle codes come from each operator's own website, checked on 1 November 2026: ATOMA, AWCC, Etisalat and Salaam. Main-balance codes and the AWCC, Roshan and Salaam help numbers come from independent guides, so treat those as a good starting point. Operators change codes and prices, so if a code fails, ask the network's help line.
Main balance and data balance are different
People often say "balance" for both, which causes real confusion.
- Main balance is your airtime, in afghanis. It pays for calls, SMS and new bundles.
- Data balance is the megabytes or gigabytes left on your active bundle.
You can have plenty of airtime and no data, or plenty of data and no airtime. If the internet stops while your main balance looks healthy, your bundle has probably finished, and your airtime will not always cover the gap. If you are not sure which you need, see our guide to airtime and data bundles.
How to check remaining data on ATOMA
ATOMA's bundle pages give two routes, and both show your remaining quota in megabytes.
| What to do | Code |
|---|---|
| Open the data menu, then reply 7 | *344#Dial |
| Open the wider bundle menu, then reply 3, then 5, then 7 | *247#Dial |
| Check main balance | *310#Dial |
The result is shown in MB, so divide by 1,024 to get GB. A reply of 2,048 MB means you have 2 GB left.
How to check remaining data on AWCC
AWCC does not use one single code. Each bundle has its own check code, and the last digit is always 4. Use the code that matches the bundle you bought.
| Your bundle | Check code |
|---|---|
| 1 GB, 1 day | *477*50*4#Dial |
| 2 GB, 1 day | *477*77*4#Dial |
| 3 GB, 1 day | *477*99*4#Dial |
| 3 GB, 7 days | *477*210*4#Dial |
| 5 GB, 7 days | *477*275*4#Dial |
| 1 GB, 30 days | *477*110*4#Dial |
| 3 GB, 30 days | *477*4*4#Dial |
| 5 GB, 30 days | *477*391*4#Dial |
| 10 GB, 30 days | *477*550*4#Dial |
| 18 GB, 30 days | *477*8*4#Dial |
| 25 GB, 30 days | *477*999*4#Dial |
If you do not remember which bundle you have, call 152 and ask. Main balance is *123#Dial.
How to check remaining data on Etisalat
Etisalat's own bundle page gives one simple method, and it covers every bundle.
You will get a text message back with what is left. The My Etisalat app shows it too.
How to check remaining data on Roshan
| What you want to do | How to do it on Roshan |
|---|---|
| See current bundles and subscribe | Open the My Roshan app |
| Subscribe by SMS | Text the bundle's code to 555 (codes are listed in the bundles section of roshan.af) |
| See remaining data | Open the My Roshan app dashboard |
| Main balance | *444#Dial |
| Help from a person | Call 333 |
Roshan's website does not publish its bundle codes in a form we could check, and the lists on other websites disagree with the prices Roshan shows today. So we are not printing bundle-by-bundle codes here, because a wrong code could buy the wrong bundle. The app and 333 always give the current one.
How to check remaining data on Salaam
Salaam lists a package enquiry code for each bundle, and the last digit is always 2.
| Your bundle | Check code |
|---|---|
| 100 MB, 1 day | *740*11*2#Dial |
| 1 GB, 1 day | *740*12*2#Dial |
| 2 GB, 7 days | *740*91*2#Dial |
| 1 GB, 1 month | *740*1*2#Dial |
| 3 GB, 1 month | *740*3*2#Dial |
| 5 GB, 1 month | *740*5*2#Dial |
| 10 GB, 1 month | *740*10*2#Dial |
| 20 GB, 1 month | *740*20*2#Dial |
| 30 GB, 1 month | *740*30*2#Dial |
| 50 GB, 2 months | *740*50*2#Dial |
Salaam's page does not describe a single general data check, so use the code for your bundle or call 744. Main balance is *888#Dial.
Why does my data run out so fast?
If the number drops faster than you expected, the bundle is rarely at fault. It is usually what the phone is doing.
- Video and video calls. These use far more data than text or voice messages. Our guide to how much data WhatsApp and IMO calls use has the details.
- Background updates. Apps and the phone's own system updates can run without you noticing. Turn off automatic updates on mobile data.
- Night data. On some bundles part of the allowance only works between 11 PM and 7 AM, so the daytime amount is smaller than the headline. See our guide to night data bundles.
- Sharing a hotspot. Every device on your hotspot uses your bundle.
If you run out every month, a bigger bundle usually works out cheaper. Our monthly data guide helps you choose the right size.
What to do when your balance is empty
Once data has run out, you have two options. If you have airtime, activate a new bundle with the codes for your network. If you have no airtime, ask family abroad to send a top-up to your number. ATOMA, AWCC and Etisalat bundles can also be bought directly on TopUpAFG for your number, so you do not have to dial anything.
Frequently asked questions
Is checking my data balance free?
Checking by USSD is normally free, and you can do it without data. Etisalat's check is an SMS, so keep a small amount of airtime in case the network charges for it.
Why does the balance show MB when I bought GB?
Networks report data in megabytes. One gigabyte is 1,024 MB, so a 3 GB bundle starts at about 3,072 MB.
Does unused data roll over?
Usually not. ATOMA states that any remaining megabytes are lost when a bundle expires. Check the rules on your network before you rely on leftover data.
My balance shows data but the internet is not working. Why?
The problem is usually on the phone, not the bundle. Check that mobile data is on, that the right SIM is selected, and that the phone has signal. Our guide to fixing a data bundle that is not working goes through each step.
