If you live abroad, there are two ways to give family in Afghanistan internet: send a data bundle directly, or send airtime and let them activate the bundle they want. A direct bundle needs nothing from them. Airtime gives them every bundle their network offers, and it is the way to go on Roshan and Salaam, where we currently sell airtime rather than bundles. This guide shows how much to send and exactly what to tell them.

Bundle codes come from each operator's own website, checked on 1 November 2026: ATOMA, AWCC, Etisalat and Salaam. Main-balance codes and the AWCC, Roshan and Salaam help numbers come from independent guides, so treat those as a good starting point. Operators change codes and prices, so if a code fails, ask the network's help line.

If the person is comfortable with a phone, airtime gives them freedom. If they are not, a direct bundle removes every step. For the full comparison, read airtime and data bundles explained.
Step 1: Find out their network
Ask for the number with its first three digits. 072 and 079 are Roshan, 070 and 071 are AWCC, 073 and 078 are Etisalat, 076 and 077 are ATOMA, and 074 and 075 are Salaam. Our prefix guide covers this in more detail.
Step 2: Decide how much to send
Send at least the price of the bundle they want, plus a small buffer, so the balance does not fall just short. TopUpAFG's amount box shows the total before you pay. Here are popular monthly choices, at the networks' own prices.

Step 3: Send the airtime
Go to the TopUpAFG home page, enter the number, choose the amount, and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The credit normally reaches the number within moments. They can check it with the main balance code in the table above.
Step 4: Send them these instructions
Copy this message and change the code to match the bundle you chose.

For Etisalat, change it to this:

Roshan's website does not publish its bundle codes in a form we could check, and the lists on other websites disagree with the prices Roshan shows today. So we are not printing bundle-by-bundle codes here, because a wrong code could buy the wrong bundle. The app and 333 always give the current one.
If the bundle does not activate
- Not enough balance. Check the main balance. They may have spent some on calls, or a renewing bundle took it. Cancelling a renewing bundle stops that from happening again.
- Wrong network. Check the number's first three digits against the code.
- It activated but nothing loads. Work through why a data bundle is not working.
- They want to see what is left. Send them our guide on checking internet balance.
Elderly parents often prefer a person to a code, so give them the network's help number from the table. A shop or a neighbour can help too, but tell them never to share any mobile money PIN.

What if they use the airtime on calls instead?
That is the risk with airtime, as it is simply money on the SIM. If you want to be sure it goes on data, send a direct bundle where the network allows it.
