How to Activate a Data Bundle in Afghanistan (All Networks)

To activate a data bundle in Afghanistan, top up your balance, then dial or text your network's bundle code. ATOMA and AWCC use a USSD code you dial, Etisalat uses an SMS to 3378, Salaam offers both, and Roshan works through the My Roshan app or an SMS to 555. The bundle's price comes out of your airtime, and the data is ready to use once the network confirms it.

This guide has the code for every network, ready to copy. Tap Copy next to any code, then paste it into the phone app. On an Android phone you can also tap Dial, or Text for an SMS code. iPhones do not allow websites to dial these codes, so on an iPhone tap Copy, open Phone, paste, and press call.

Bundle codes come from each operator's own website, checked on 1 November 2026: ATOMA, AWCC, Etisalat and Salaam. Main-balance codes and the AWCC, Roshan and Salaam help numbers come from independent guides, so treat those as a good starting point. Operators change codes and prices, so if a code fails, ask the network's help line.

Step 1: Find your network

The first three digits of the number tell you the network. A number starting 077 is ATOMA, 078 is Etisalat, 070 is AWCC, 079 is Roshan and 074 is Salaam. If a number has moved network, the first digits can be misleading, so check our guide to Afghan network prefixes if a code keeps failing.

This matters because each network's codes work on that network only. Dialling an ATOMA code on an AWCC SIM does nothing useful.

Step 2: Make sure you have enough airtime

Activation takes the full price from your main balance in one go. If you have 40 AFN and the bundle costs 50 AFN, it will not activate. Check your main balance with the code in the table above.

Dial the code for the bundle you want and wait for the confirmation message. You can also dial *344# or *247# and pick a bundle from the menu.

ATOMA's site lists the same code for its 13 GB and 25 GB monthly bundles, so we have left those two out. To buy either one, dial *344# and choose it from the menu. ATOMA is the network formerly called MTN Afghanistan, so its older guides may still use that name.

Each AWCC bundle has its own code. The number in the middle identifies the bundle, a final 1 activates it, and a final 4 checks it.

How to activate a bundle on Etisalat

Etisalat works by text message. Send the bundle's code as an SMS to 3378. For example, send D50 to 3378 for the daily 1 GB bundle. You can also call 888 to ask for it, use the My Etisalat app, or visit an Etisalat shop.

Roshan's website does not publish its bundle codes in a form we could check, and the lists on other websites disagree with the prices Roshan shows today. So we are not printing bundle-by-bundle codes here, because a wrong code could buy the wrong bundle. The app and 333 always give the current one.

Salaam gives you a choice: dial the USSD code, or send the SMS. When you text, keep the space after the letter A.

Step 4: Turn on mobile data and wait for the confirmation

After activating, you should receive a confirmation message. Then make sure mobile data is on. On a dual-SIM phone, check that data is set to the SIM you just activated, because many phones default to the other one.

If the bundle is active but nothing loads, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then off. That makes the phone reconnect. If it still fails, work through why a data bundle is not working, which covers APN settings, Wi-Fi and signal.

Should you activate it yourself or have it sent?

If you are in Afghanistan with airtime, dialling the code is the quickest route. It also gives you every bundle the network offers, including the short ones.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my network say I have insufficient balance?

The bundle costs more than your main balance. Check your balance, add airtime, and try again. The whole price is taken at once, so a partial balance will not work.

Can I activate a bundle for another person?

A USSD or SMS code activates a bundle on the SIM you use it from. To give someone else a bundle, send them airtime so they can activate it, or buy the bundle for their number on a site that sells bundles directly.

How long does activation take?

It is usually quick, and you should get a confirmation message. At busy times it can take a little longer. If nothing has arrived after several minutes, check your bundle before you try again, so you do not buy it twice.

Can I have two bundles active at once?

Networks treat this differently, and the rules can vary by bundle. Ask your network's help line before buying a second bundle on top of one that is still running.

Do these codes work on an iPhone?

Yes, once you dial them. iPhones do not let a website dial them for you, so copy the code, paste it into the Phone app, and press call.
